A Vague Idea of the Future, Perhaps
Unwillingly, I'm such a huge hipster, I love listening to weird little indie bands and finding unique art and places that not many people know about. I want to take that amazing feeling of discovery and distill it into weird stuff that I make for the sake of itself. There is nothing poignant or high class modern art, simply making things that I would enjoy finding.
In my notes app I have one pinned note that is a list of fake band ideas, the first one ever was Three Raccoons in a Trenchcoat. I think I have around a 100 bands or so in there, not all of them will see the light of day, but ideally, I will always have a new band and a new concept to explore.
Dallon Weeke's imperious stage presence is the main inspiration for how I'd like the "label" to come across over social media. Intelligent, Witty, Psuedo-Omnicient, and Better than You. A monolithic self-made royalty, but underground and unknown to most.
I'd like to make band shirts and merch for every single band eventually, but I would want to do it in a way that I can be proud of - not just vomiting out cheap clothing. If I'm not willing to wear it around, the fabric is awful, or the price is more than I would pay, it will not be sold. This takes money, so instead I'll probably do a small release when it gains some traction, and then maybe do a drop/release series and print via pre-order. Ideally I can offload as much of the work as possible to an external company, but often that tradeoff results in a worse product and higher costs. Not sure how to make that pipe dream happen, I guess we'll find out.
Content I think would be fun to do:
make a large wiki for all the bands that have content and a backstory. include merch, fun facts, personal details.
make blog posts about fun things I find, music I like, shitposting, etc.
the most insane shortform content idk, something something zoe.bread on crack
make a band thing each week and post it to all the social media channels
I will never use AI to generate any content for me. I don't want to simply churn out bullshit just to have it exist under my label, I want to make everything and be the artist making art. Prompting is for losers and posers.
Maybe I'll make this website actually custom and code everything myself, but at least for now I don't want to go through the trouble of making that work, I'd rather just use all the default tools so I don't have to bother.
I absolutely cannot stand the type of people on LinkedIn who put "founder" "business owner" "CEO" when they have no customers, no profit, and don't actually do anything except maybe resell things off alibaba or talk to people about talking to people. That's why I resolve to be nothing more than the lead intern of Fake Band Records. I'm exceptionally amused by the idea that I'm just an unpaid intern who has an insane amount of power over the business, works very odd hours, has to run almost everything, and doesn't get paid a cent. In the world where FBR is real, this is something I would totally do because it's awesome.
